Ask-A-Boss #009 Don’t Just Win, Dominate by Naomi D Brown

Now ladies, you all know I think women are the superior species. However, occasionally are

male counterparts say or do something worth noting. As we feverously work to meet the end of the

year goals, I heard something that I believe is a great mantra for helping us get there.

While watching 60 minutes, Deon Sanders said something profound about his approach

towards games and building a program at Jackson State University. “I don’t just plan to win, I

am going to dominate." What if you took that same winning attitude and applied it to your next

client or pitch meeting? Could you not just win but dominate?

Historically women have been less aggressive and confident about asking for funding or

demanding the best price for their services.

● When pitching to investors, two-thirds of 750 females felt that they were not taken into

consideration seriously. (Nat West)

More and more, Her Corner business owners are seeking ways to change that narrative daily.

Tips for bringing a winning and dominating attitude:

● Prepare- Take 3 different time slots on your calendar to stop and prepare yourself

instead of cramming everything into the night before. ( I know the struggle is real, but

trust me it works!)

● Research competition- Knowing who you are up against, and industry standards will help

handle objections. You don’t’ need to be a walking data bank; but a little information can

go a long way.

● Practice – Use your staff, friends, family or even your Her Corner coach to rehearse.

● Pep Talk – What is your winning phrase or winning song that motivates you? Say or Play

it right before you go

Whatever you do to create a dominating winning attitude, keep in mind you started a business

because you have a unique product or approach to solving a problem. Translation; you know

what you are doing. Even if you don’t get the contract or funds, you are still a winner and it’s

getting you one step closer to your next yes! You got this, so let’s get it done!

Share a winning experience with the Her Corner community to help inspire a fellow boss.
