Spring Clean Your Finances: A Four-Week Reset for Female Founders
Spring is here — and while you're swapping out winter coats and clearing out that one closet you've been avoiding, I want to challenge you to apply that same energy somewhere that really matters: your finances.
I'll be honest. As a business owner, I know how easy it is to get so focused on running the business that the financial foundation quietly starts to crack. Subscriptions pile up. Credit goes unchecked. Clients ask for a payment plan. Savings goals get postponed — again. Sound familiar? You are not alone, and more importantly, it’s fixable.
This month, we're doing a four-week financial spring cleaning. No shame, no overwhelm — just a practical, intentional reset.
Week 1: Make a Plan You can't clean what you can't see. Start by organizing your financial paperwork — statements, accounts, and yes, all those subscriptions you forgot you signed up for. Prioritize what's serving you and cut what isn't. Then, refresh your savings goals. Where you were financially at 25 is not where you should be planning from at 45. Your goals need to grow with you.
Week 2: Know Your Credit Picture Your credit score is one of your most powerful financial tools — and one of the most neglected. Pay every bill on time. Keep your credit utilization low. Pull your credit report and actually read it. Whether you're in your 20s building your first lines of credit or in your 50s making sure everything is locked and accurate, your credit picture needs regular attention. Don't wait for a loan application to find out there's a problem.
Week 3: Track, Automate, and Grow Where is your money actually going? This week is about monitoring your spending with real intention — not guilt, intention. Set up automated transfers to your savings so the decision is already made for you. Open or optimize a high-yield savings account. Your money should be working while you work.
Week 4: Invest in Financial Literacy This is the one so many founders skip — and it shows. Understanding terms like ROI, net profit, and burn rate is not optional when you're running a business. Consider taking an accounting basics course, or exploring whether a fractional CFO could be a game-changer for where you are right now. Surround yourself with a financial team that helps you grow, not just stay afloat.
The beautiful thing about spring cleaning — financial or otherwise — is that you don't have to do it all at once. You just have to start.
