Time is Now: How To Grow & Protect Your Business as a Female Founder in Tough Economic and Political Times
Hey Sister Bosses!
Lately, I have been spending a lot of time thinking about how Her Corner can help my fellow female founders in this unpredictable economic and political climate. This is what has been resounding in my head: The time is now. Stick to the fundamentals and don’t sit on the sidelines waiting for the game to change.
Now, I’m not suggesting you come in guns blazing ala Shaft or the Fast and the Furious. But if you are just so damn tired of worrying about making payroll, standardizing SOPs, improving operations, finding and retaining talent — I got three words for you, sis: Capacity, Climate, Control.
Capacity
How do you find the energy to get “all the things” done? Since we know being Chief Everything Officer is not sustainable, consider strategies that can increase your capacity:
Leverage AI. Automate what you can (see previous blog)
Hire Part-Time Help. Whether it’s on a by-project basis or simply setting a few hours each week, having an extra brain in the equation can relieve you. If you thoughtfully set limits and manage your timing, you will quickly see the ROI of asking for (and then receiving) help.
Climate
The economic and political climate is always at play for business owners. Don’t get sucked into the dread or consumed by the endless doomscroll. Sometimes changing the game means playing Operation instead of basketball. This is where Community (another C!) comes in handy. In our case – and with thanks to our former owners Fred Irwin and Kimberly Berger – Her Corner has scores of founders and business coaches who have been there, done that, and would love to share how they overcame all kinds of obstacles. It can also help to…
Check your media habits. Limit the noise and focus on how your industry and customers may be affected.
Ask questions. Not sure what a client needs in this moment? Send out a simple survey or schedule a quick call to specifically ask them.
Remember that we stand on the shoulders of giants. We can do hard things together.
Control
It has been my experience that indecision is worse than making the wrong decision. So what are we deciding to do today, ladies? We are taking control.
Deep breaths. Schedule time in the day to stop. Take three deep breaths. Try it now. :)
Create a plan. Rome was not built in a day! Make a plan, break it into chunks, and execute.
Lean on an accountability partner or team. Check out our programs here. Don’t trick yourself into thinking you can’t afford it or don’t have the time. You can’t afford NOT TO!
For more resources (or just to be in the know) explore our Her Corner newsletter here. Our team shares monthly updates and upcoming opportunities to engage including a few open slots for those peer groups I mentioned earlier, events such as virtual lunch & learns, curriculum updates, and more.
Remember you got this and we got you !
