Ask-A-Boss #018 What Can AI Do for Me? 5 Functional Questions Answered By Naomi D Brown

Alright, ladies. We have to talk about AI. Looks like it’s here to stay. No matter the size or type of your business, there is a way that AI can be incorporated. I know you're probably thinking “as if I need another thing to take up brain space”. I’m with you Sister. But this could be a competitive advantage for you so let’s take a closer look.

We picked a few questions we received from Her Corner members via our Ask A Boss Blog to address:

  1. So what exactly is AI?

  2. Does anyone else think it’s just creepy?

  3. How much is too much?

  4. Is it expensive?

  5. How do you protect your intellectual capital?

These are all honest and even a little funny questions that actually have an impact on your bottom line. Here is what we know:

AI TIPS

1. Definition

The most simple way to Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions/problem-solving.

Everything from face recognition to e-payments and digital assistants can help your business.

2. Creep Factor

Don’t confuse AI with an all-out Creepy Robot. It’s just a more intense version of Alexa or Siri.

Times are changing which requires you to do the same as a business owner to stay relevant.

3. Engagement Level

How much AI you can handle is largely subjective. Your client base along with the service/product you offer will help dictate how much and where you use AI. You may be looking for simple answers or alternate ways to complete a sentence while others want a full-on chat experience for their clients to appear more robust and reduce response time to answering client concerns. Resist the pressure to dive in. It’s ok to dip your toe if you like based on your budget.

4. Cost

Levels and what you can expect to spend for each on average

Base - Document suggestions $0 - $50 a month

Intermediate - Content writing for your website $250- $500 (one time or monthly)

Advanced - Help desk support chat lines, voice recognition  $500 + one time or monthly)

5. Intellectual Capital

When it comes to protections and laws, we always say to consult a professional. Things to keep in mind are that once you put it in a GBOT, it no longer belongs to you. If you haven’t protected your idea, be careful about where you enter it. Leave out the proprietary information for now.

Try not to let the unknown intimidate you from creating a great opportunity to grow your business. Anytime you are able to automate a portion of your operations, it is more time you can devote to what you do best as HBIC (Head Boss in Charge)!!
