Ask A Boss: How Can We Really Acknowledge Black History Month?

Question submitted by H Clay, Atlanta, GA

Response by Coach Naomi D. Brown

Black History Is Our History

Well Sister Boss, Black History is not just a chapter in a book, but a tapestry that weaves together the stories of countless individuals who have shaped our world. And within this rich history, we must not overlook the incredible contributions of female entrepreneurs.

Take an oldie but goodie Madame CJ Walker, for example. A trailblazer in her own right, she defied the odds and became one of the first self-made female millionaires in America. Living 100 years ago, did she know that her legacy would resonate through time? Perhaps not. But she had a vision, determination, and an unwavering belief in herself.

As we reflect on remarkable women who have paved the way for us today, let us be inspired by their courage and resilience. They remind us that greatness knows no boundaries or limitations.

So what can YOU do to make your mark on history? Embrace your unique talents and passions. Be fearless in pursuing your dreams. Lift others up along the way and champion diversity and inclusion. Go ahead create that new product, make a presentation, or execute that plan to express your genius! Remember as a part of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, actions you take as a Boss have the potential to create ripples of change.

For those sisters who aren’t of Black Heritage, there is still an opportunity to learn and be a part of helping others to improve upon and make new history. Together, let's honor our past by shaping a future where all voices are heard and celebrated. Let's continue to build upon the foundation laid by those who came before us and leave a lasting impact for generations to come.
