Bridging the Divide: Turning Business Dreams into Reality (Enough!)

MLK Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech taught us the importance of vision, leadership, and collaboration. Most of us understand and agree these grand concepts are applicable to running our businesses. The challenge is that the reality of the current business environment makes the execution of your dream a grudge match. Even when we understand what needs to be done, implementation remains elusive. Oprah Winfrey's recent book Enough speaks explicitly to this disconnect. Ms. Winfrey examines how, for her, overcoming the mental challenges of losing weight required more than just understanding biology. Willpower alone wasn’t enough and she has had enough of blaming herself

As I start this new year, I'm looking to answer business questions and evaluate new ideas with one word: HOW. As much as I appreciate advice and high-level concepts, what I really need—and what I've seen and heard from my fellow founders—is someone to show me how to get to where I want to be. How do I get in front of new clients? How do I make my company visible? How do I get to the decision makers who can cut the check?

Since I have grown a multi-million dollar business, I'm not supposed to talk about these types of frustrations. But if I am being authentic and want to really help founders like myself, I have to acknowledge this gap in our current reality. I have had Enough of relying on others and playing defense as well.
